Super Hi Vision: Next generation high definition TV

The BBC has broadcast a Charlatans concert to Japan's NHK TV at 16 times the resolution of today's HD.

The BBC 6Music radio session was filmed in the new format of Super Hi Vision and sent over fibre cables to an audience in Tokyo.

BBC and NHK engineers have worked together on developing the system.

Olympic Broadcasting Services are looking at whether large public screens could carry similar broadcasts from the 2012 London games.

The Charlatans concert will be broadcast by BBC 6Music throughout the day on Thursday 30 September
