Off screen she's gone from teen pop star to actress and mother. On screen she's transformed from the Doctor's assistant, to lady of the night and now housewife. Billie Piper stars in the BBC drama adaptation of Kay Mellor's novel 'A Passionate Woman'.
Billy plays Betty, as a young woman, she's very poor and she's newly married, and a mother and trapped in a loveless marriage. She's very much a woman of the time - very ordered, proper and buttoned up. It's a very old-fashioned relationship with her husband, he's at work all day and he doesn't talk to her. She is completely bowled over by Craze, a polish neighbour who moves in, they fall in love and begin an obsessive, passionate affair leading to disastrous consequences. The second episode of the story jumps forward to the 80's, where Betty is played by the actress, Sue Johnston.
The BBC One drama ' Passionate Woman' is on Sunday, 11th April at 9pm (Part One)
