School dinners... for parents

Since the start of the new school term in September, we've been focusing on the issue of healthy school dinners.

It's part of an initiative to make sure our youngsters get nutritional food, and grow into healthy adults.

We've also heard about the mums going to the fish and chip shop at lunchtime and giving their children chip through the railings because they won't eat school dinners.

So today we were at the City of Leicester College - it's invited parents to try the new healthy school dinners for themselves.

The emphasis is on less salt, sugar and fat but the college hopes that if parents try the food, it will help them encourage their children.

  • Sarah Campbell reported from Leicester for Breakfast this morning - watch again from the link to the right of this page
  • She found out why parents had been invited into the school to sample the dinners their children eat.

And she met two pupils who were being encouraged to eat more healthily by having a go at cooking.
