Julia Donaldson spoke to Natasha and Dermot this morning Breakfast.
Julia said that she'd planned to write a book about a tiger but couldn't get anything to rhyme with it...she was looking for something to rhyme with "don't you know" and ended up putting grr (as in a tiger's roar) + oh together to make "gruffalo".
The book took just two weeks to write adn the rhythm on rhyme of its was influenced by Julia's previous career as a writer of children's songs.
Julia says she's been amazed by the book's success. There is now a play based on the book and it's been translated into 29 languages.
