You're free, Breakfast tells Derek
Derek Bond on holiday with his wife Audrey
Breakfast's main story this morning is the arrest of the British pensioner Derek Bond.

Overnight, the American Attorney's office has confirmed what Derek Bond had said all along: it's a case of mistaken identity.

The 72 year old pensioner from Bristol should be free later this morning (Wednesday) after spending two weeks in a South African jail.

One of Breakfast's producers broke the news to Derek Bond this morning:

"Well it'll be very welcome news if that's confirmed because I am relly at the end now," a clearly emotional Mr Bond told us.

"That is really good news if what you say is true, but I have had so many false hopes I just hope it's the right one."

We also spoke to Mr Bond's British lawyer, Andrew Gregg.

Derek Bond was arrested while on holiday in South Africa, on suspicion of masterminding a multi-million dollar fraud in the United States.

The FBI had put out an alert via interpol for a man called Derek Sykes, in connection with a telemarketing fraud which has conned people out of millions of dollars.

Overnight, the American Attorney's office confirmed that they'd made a mistake and apologised to Derek and his family.

They have since arrested a man in Las Vegas.
