BILL BRYSON'S AFRICAN DIARY

Bill Bryson has been to Kenya at the invitation of CARE International, the charity "dedicated to working with local communities to eradicate poverty around the world."

This is Bill's first trip to developing Africa, and he is writing a 10,000-word diary of his travels, which will be published by Broadway Books in December 2002.

The diary, the publishers say, will contain the trademark stamp of irreverent, poignant, and fascinatingly instructive observation.

So who is Bill Bryson?

Bill Bryson's many books include, most recently, In a Sunburned Country, as well as I'm a Stranger Here Myself, A Walk in the Woods, The Lost Continent, Notes from a Small Island, Neither Here Nor There, Made in America, and Mother Tongue.

Born in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1951, he lived in England for almost two decades. He now lives in Hanover, New Hampshire, with his wife and four children.
