Think "insurance" before you reach the check-in desk

It's easier than ever before to hop on a cheap flight for a last-minute mini-break abroad.

But, according to the Foreign Office, nearly half of us forget one vital thing: travel insurance.

For some reason, we don't take mini-breaks as seriously as the main familiy holiday.

Forty three per cent of us are travelling without insurance on mini-breaks, compared with only 13 per cent of travellers on their main annual holiday.

It's a mistake which could cost us dear.

An air ambulance from Spain, for instance, costs £9,000 - enough to wipe out many people's life savings.

Now the Foreign Office has launched a new website, which is aimed specifically at last minute travellers.
