Illegal dumping costs taxpayers tens of millions of pounds each year and causes serious damage to the environment. Very few of those responsible are caught and tip-offs from members of the public are often vital in bringing those responsible to justice.

The Environment Agency website below explains who to contact if you suspect illegal dumping. It may be the local authority for smaller local problems, or it could be the police or the Environment Agency for large scale activities like those featured in the BBC One programme, Dumping on Britain.

Recycle now: Recycle now offers straightforward advice on how to reduce waste and recycle. This covers the home and garden as well as schools and the workplace. You can also find out about recycling facilities in your area. The website is run by the Waste & Resources Action Programme, an independent organisation funded by government.

The Community Recycling Network is the national umbrella organisation for community-based, not-for-profit and co-operative waste management groups which work in reduction, re-use and recycling.
