Tehran struck by mortar attacks
Tehran
The attack was on the Revolutionary guard in Tehran
There have been at least two mortar bomb attacks on Tehran according to Iran's official Irna news agency.

The news agency said that the area around the sports complex in the capital, where a garrison of the Revolutionary Guards is based, was hit but the blasts had "caused no loss of life."

Iranian TV said several shells hit Seoul Street but caused no casualties or damage in what it called an "indiscriminate act of terrorism".

President Khatami: Survived a Mujahideen attack in February
The Iraq-based Mujahideen Khalq guerrilla, a group of opposition Iranians in exile, issued statements saying it had staged mortar attacks on two separate headquarters of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards.

The Mujahideen Khalq statements, issued in Paris, said "a number" of Revolutionary Guards had been "killed or wounded".

The guerrilla group said the attacks were on the headquarters of the Guards' general command and the headquarters of Guards responsible for the security of Tehran.

Targets

The Mujahideen Khalq has claimed responsibility for many similar attacks inside Iran in the past.

Police stations, military barracks and government offices have been the most frequent targets of guerrilla attacks.

Six people were injured in a Mujahideen mortar attack near Tehran's police headquarters in May.

Another attack in March killed one person and injured several others.

An attack in February on the offices of President Mohammad Khatami killed one man.

The president, who was in another part of the building, was unharmed.
