Iraq poll uncertainty 'could trigger violence'


The Iraqi electoral commission is expected to announce later whether the Prime Minister Nuri al Maliki or his main rival Iyad Allawi has won the country's parliamentary election - nearly three weeks after the country went to the polls.

If neither camp emerges with a clear mandate to lead the country's fragile democracy, many fear a drawn-out political debate, which they believe could trigger renewed violence.
