Kuwait and Iran sort border issues
The Kuwaiti Oil Minister, Sheikh Saud Nasser al-Sabah, says it's been agreed that talks with Iran on resolving a maritime territorial dispute are to resume in September. Speaking at the end of a three-day visit to the Iranian capital, Tehran, Sheikh Saud told journalists that the principles of international law would be followed and that a technical committee would handle matters. The border disputes resurfaced earlier this year when Iran started drilling in the Dorra field, in the northern Gulf, which is rich in gas and also claimed by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The drilling was later stopped after protests by the two countries and plans for talks involving the sides were announced. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
