Kurdish groups clash in northern Iraq

There are reports of clashes in northern Iraq involving Kurdish groups.

The Turkish news agency Anatolia said forty people had been killed in fighting between Turkey's Kurdish rebels of the PKK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party of northern Iraq.

The agency said most of the dead belonged to the PKK, which has in the past used bases in Kurdish-administered northern Iraq to launch attacks against Turkey.

There's no independent confirmation of the fighting. The PKK declared a ceasefire against the Turkish state last year and withdrew fighters from the country.
