An Iraqi court has sentenced a cousin of Saddam Hussein known as Chemical Ali to death for his role in crushing a Shia uprising in 1991.

It is the second death sentence for Ali Hasan al-Majid - he was condemned to hang in February over the killing of 100,000 people during the Anfal campaign against Iraq's Kurds.

After the judge read out the sentence Ali Hassan al-Majid responded by saying, "praises and thanks to God".

Senior Baath Party official, Adbulghani Adbul Ghafour, was also given the death sentence.

He shouted out in response, welcoming death and telling the judge to shut up.
