Baghdad bombing hits Shia family

Map of Baghdad showing Jamia

A bomb has exploded in Baghdad in front of a house belonging to a Shia family who had recently returned to their home in a mostly Sunni area, police say.

Reports say the blast, in the central Jamia district, killed the homeowner and injured six others.

A second bomb exploded after police arrived, injuring three officers.

Elsewhere in the capital, two people died when a bomb attached to their car exploded. It was not immediately clear why they had been targeted.

There has been a marked increase in violence this week, with a string of bombings in the Iraqi capital that have killed more than 35 people.
