Pro-reform journalist arrested in Iran
A court in Tehran has ordered the detention of a prominent Iranian pro-reform journalist. The state media said the man, Emadeddin Baghi, was provisionally taken into custody while on trial for damaging national security and propagating false news. The judge said Mr Baghi's defence had not been convincing and he had not produced sufficient documentation to support his case. The charges against Mr Baghi were brought by the intelligence ministry and the conservative-run state television. He was a member of the editorial board of a newspaper , Fath, banned by the authorities during the recent general elections. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
