Car bomb blasts kills 13 in Iraq

Map

At least 13 people have been killed in two bomb attacks in Iraq.

In the first, a car bomb exploded in a mainly Shia district in north-eastern Baghdad, killing six people and injuring 14.

The second bomb, in the restive eastern province of Diyala, killed seven people, including the wife and two children of a Kurdish leader.

Violence in Iraq has fallen in recent months, although the US Congress has said the country "remains volatile".

Correspondents say the US military has been working hard to bolster local government, to prevent areas from falling back under the control of extremists.
