Gaza border clash kills militants

Gaza map

Israeli troops have killed three Palestinian militants in the northern Gaza Strip near the Erez border crossing with Israel.

Islamic Jihad and another militant group said their members were attacking an Israeli army post.

An air strike and fire from ground forces killed the attackers, the Israeli military said.

Militants have launched a series of attacks on Israeli-run border crossings into Gaza in the last two weeks.

An Israeli blockade has only allowed limited supplies into Gaza since the Islamist group Hamas seized control of the territory from forces loyal to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Israel has launched its own cross-border raids into Gaza in an effort to stop militants from firing rockets into southern Israel.
