Iraqi pilgrims caught in bombing
Iraq map
Police in Iraq say at least three Shia pilgrims have been killed in a bombing in southern Baghdad.

Separately, in Samarra north of the capital, a suicide bomber in a wheelchair attacked a police station.

An assistant police chief, Maj Gen Abduljabbar Rabia, was killed.

The attack on the pilgrims occurred as the group walked towards the city of Karbala, south of Baghdad, for an annual religious ceremony.

It came a day after a suicide bomber infiltrated another group of pilgrims south of the Iraqi capital.

Health officials said on Monday that at least 56 people were now known to have died in that attack.
