Iranian reformists respond positively to US

Reformists in Iran have responded to the US government's comments on last Friday parliamentary elections.

An editorial in the "Mosharekat" newspaper of the main reformist party , The Participation Party of Islamic Iran, praised what it called the change of tone by Washington.

The US State Department spokesman, James Foley, had welcomed the victory by reformers as a strengthening of the democratic process in Iran.

But the paper said that to win the trust of the Iranian people , the US had to change its policies towards Iran.

Correspondents say these include the lifting of American sanctions against Iran and the unfreezing of Iranian assets in the US.
