Israelis wounded in Nablus raid

It is the biggest Israeli operation in Nablus for several months

Five Israeli soldiers have been hurt, two of them seriously, by a bomb detonated by Palestinian militants in Nablus in the West Bank, the army says.

The blast happened during what the army called an ongoing operation in the city began in the early hours of Thursday.

Troops have detained at least 30 people and imposed a curfew on central Nablus.

A BBC correspondent says the army is targeting the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a militant group affiliated to the Fatah party of President Mahmoud Abbas.

The clashes follow Israeli raids into Gaza on Wednesday which Palestinian doctors said killed at least 12 people, including a 12-year-old boy, and wounded about 50.

Correspondents say the Nablus operation, the biggest for several months, was an indication that Israel was not giving up on its campaign against pro-Fatah militants even though it is supporting Mr Abbas in his struggle against the radical Islamist movement Hamas.
