Hunger strike over alleged Palestinian corruption

Five Palestinians who were arrested for signing a document blaming the Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, for the corruption in government ranks, say they have begun a hunger strike in protest at their detention.

The men -- who were arrested after signing the leaflet a week ago -- say they have yet to be charged and that they will not yield to pressure to retract their criticism.

Reports say at least seven other signatories have softened their statements against Mr Arafat.
