Americans in Kuwait told to be ready to leave

The American embassy in Kuwait has advised its citizens in the country to take precautions and prepare to leave at short notice because of the tension between the United States and Iraq.

Americans have been told to keep adequate supplies of food and water at home and to make sure their cars are in working order and with full tanks of fuel.

The embassy said it did not want Americans to become unduly alarmed, and it was not advising them to leave Kuwait for the time being.
