A Russian diplomat has been killed and four kidnapped in Iraq's capital, Baghdad, Russian and Iraqi officials have confirmed.
The gunmen used cars to block a road before opening fire on the Russian diplomatic vehicle.
The attack took place in Mansour district in the west of the city, close to the Russian embassy.
The Russian foreign ministry said a "crisis cell" had been set up to find the abducted diplomats.
Witnesses said the victims had been out buying food. Their white sports utility vehicle was shown on TV with shattered windows.
The Mansour area of Baghdad houses a number of embassies and has seen attacks on other diplomats.
A United Arab Emirates diplomat was seized and held for two weeks before being freed last month.
Last year, two Algerian, one Egyptian and two Moroccan embassy workers were abducted and killed.
