West Bank clashes leave two dead
An Israeli soldier has shot dead a Palestinian militant who tried to stab him in the West Bank, Israeli military officials say.

The incident happened near the southern city of Hebron, they said.

It came after a gun battle in Jenin, in the north of the West Bank, in which a Palestinian was killed and two others were wounded.

The violence comes despite an unofficial ceasefire between Palestinian militant groups and Israel.

The Israeli army said that the Jenin fire fight began after three Palestinians shot at a military base from their car.

Soldiers returned fire, injuring all three, and one of them died on the way to hospital.
