A Palestinian man has been shot dead by Israeli troops during a military operation to arrest militants, in the West Bank city of Jenin, medics say.

Saleh al-Fuqahaa was killed when soldiers fired to disperse a crowd throwing stones at an Israeli patrol.

At least 11 Palestinians, including schoolchildren, and three Israelis were wounded during the raid.

Military bulldozers have begun knocking down a building where an alleged senior militant was believed to be hiding.

Dozens of troops surrounded the building, said to be used by Iyad Abu Rob of the Islamic Jihad group.

Islamic Jihad said it was behind a suicide bombing in the Israeli town of Hadera that killed five Israelis on 26 October.

Clashes

Medical sources said several Palestinian schoolchildren were wounded in the operation on Wednesday.

Three Israeli soldiers were lightly wounded in a clash with gunmen in the city.

In a separate operation, Israeli forces arrested two suspected Palestinian militants in the village of Kfar Kalil near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

The two members of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades were found hiding in their father's house, Palestinian security sources said.
