Prince: Final chance to surrender
The speech read by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah on behalf of King Fahd which gives militants one month to surrender was broadcast live on Saudi state television.
The following are excerpts from the speech:
Brother citizens, peace and blessings of God be upon you. The determination of men who are sinecure to their God and their homeland can be enhanced only by further reliance on God the Almighty...
The determination has many forms. The state is determined to fight all terrorist ideas or actions that spread corruption on earth, making security a target of their criminal deeds.
There is also the determination of our brave men in the security forces and in all military sectors who sacrificed their chaste blood in order to strengthen the stability and greatness of this homeland. There is also the determination of the noble citizen whose patriotic stand is exemplified by his closeness to God and his allegiance to his homeland.
Brother Citizens. Our rational state was established on the principle of upholding monotheism in every heart and on every forehead. We realize that the unity of the homeland did not come from vacuum but through the struggle of the noble men behind their leader, the founder King Abd-al-Aziz. May God have mercy on their souls...
Therefore, We announce, for the last time, that we open the doors of forgiveness, return to right, and application of Islamic Shari'ah to all those who deviated from the right path and committed crimes in the name of religion to spread corruption in the country.
We give all those who belong to that group, which did injustice to itself, and who were not arrested in terrorist actions a chance to return to God and revise their positions.
Those who accept this and choose to hand over themselves voluntarily within a period not exceeding one month starting from the date of this speech will be secure and will be treated in accordance with God's Shari'ah in all that pertains to the rights of others.
Brother citizens: Everybody knows that we do not announce this out of weakness or powerlessness but we give them the choice and so that we, government and people, will be excused. We have offered an open door for revision and safety.
If the sane ones accept this they will have safety and if the arrogant reject it then by God, our tolerance will not prevent us from striking at them with our power which we derive from our reliance on God the Almighty.
We pledge to God our relentless strength and unwavering determination, with God's support and power. May God's peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you
