Briton wounded in Oman shooting
A British man has been seriously injured after he was shot in the neck in Oman, the Foreign Office has said.

The Omani police are investigating the shooting in the Gulf state's capital Muscat on Sunday, it said.

British Embassy officials, who are assisting the investigation, said the Briton was shot near a medical centre.

The man's family have been informed and he is in a stable condition in hospital. The Omani authorities had no immediate comment to make.

Hunting accidents

The Briton is the fourth westerner to be involved in shooting incidents in Oman in less than 12 months.

An American woman was sentenced to death in July for murdering her husband after he was found shot in a Muscat suburb.

Police said Rebecca Thompson, 43, had hired gunmen to shoot oil worker Mark Thompson, from Tuttle in Oklahoma.

In December and November 2003, two European tourists were killed in what the Omani authorities said were hunting accidents.
