There are about 240,000 settlers in the West Bank
A Palestinian gunman has killed an Israeli man and wounded a young woman in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, an Israeli military source said.

The attacker is said to have fired at a house in the Avnei Hefetz settlement near the Palestinian town of Tulkarm.

Israeli soldiers shot and killed the attacker, the spokesman said.

Earlier on Friday night, Palestinian security officials said Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinians in two separate incidents in the Gaza Strip.

One of them died when Israeli tanks shelled an area on the border of the Gaza Strip.

An Israeli army spokesmen said three men had been seen entering a prohibited military zone.

Palestinians say the other man died when Israeli troops opened fire to the east of Gaza City.

The incidents follow earlier violence on Friday, when Israeli police stormed the Temple Mount in Jerusalem and fired tear gas after Palestinian youths reportedly threw stones after Friday prayers.

Many worshippers took refuge in the al-Aqsa mosque - one of Islam's holiest sites - but some young men in the doorway threw stones at the police.

After several hours a deal was reached to allow people to leave peacefully.
