Friday's Arabic press greets the passing of a UN resolution lifting sanctions against Iraq and backing the US-led administration there with much scepticism.
There is concern over Washington's perceived double standards towards the UN and over its real motives, which one paper describes as "war for wealth".
Other papers believe the resolution does little more than give legitimacy to the "US occupation".
The main and only aim for war is war for wealth... Has the ordinary citizen in the world understood the aims of the USA, which goes on about freedom but is the first to ignore freedom and human rights?
Al-Thawrah - Syria
Before the USA attacked Iraq, it made every effort to scuttle any resolution adopted by the UN to lift the sanctions... The lifting of the sanctions proves the active role which the USA plays in the UN. It also proves that the USA governs the international establishment... How many resolutions did the USA veto just because they did not suit its interests and how many did the USA support just because it suited its own interests?
Al-Watan - Saudi Arabia
The resolution to lift sanctions on Iraq yesterday was not about lifting sanctions. It was really about handing over Iraq to the USA.
Al-Watan - Qatar
The other side of the coin in the UN resolution to lift Iraqi sanctions is to provide an international cover-up for the US-UK occupation forces... America and Britain will be handed Iraq's power and wealth, as well as control over its people and destiny... If it took 13 years for the sanctions to be lifted... how many years will it take to put an end to the occupation and for Iraq to regain its freedom?
Al-Khalij - UAE
In the end the final aim of the resolution to lift the sanctions was only to give legitimacy to occupation...The resolution gives the US and its allies the right to dispose of Iraq's riches... The Iraqis will not put up with those who raid their wealth, nor will the occupation of Iraq ever gain any legitimacy.
Akhbar al-Arab - UAE
What we should reflect upon now is the issue of reaping the fruits of the US-UK war against Iraq.
Al-Ra'y Al-Am - Sudan
The resolutions and measures taken against Iraq have created doubt and it will take time before this rich Arab state regains its liberty and sovereignty after the US occupation.
Al-Akhbar - Egypt
Washington and London can both say they have succeeded in taking over Iraqi oil revenues.
