Iranian paper begins two-week ban

In Iran, a two week ban comes into effect today on publishing a daily newspaper run by a daughter of the former Iranian president, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani -- Faezeh Hashemi.

The temporary closure of the paper, Zan , was ordered in a highly-publicised trial in December, in which Miss Hashemi was found guilty of insulting the police intelligence chief, General Mohammad Naghdi.

However, she was absolved of the more serious offence of publishing untruths in connection with an article which linked the General to an assault on two cabinet ministers.

Miss Hashemi is a moderate member of parliament and correspondent say the measures taken against her are part of a power struggle between moderates and conservatives in the Iranian leadership.
