Monday, January 18, 1999 Published at 02:19 GMT World: Middle East Iranian report says recent killings not politically orchestrated The Iranian committee set up to investigate the recent spate of killings of liberal writers says that the events were not orchestrated by any organization or political group. A statement from the committee said these findings followed extensive investigations. It also said expressed regret over the publication in some newspapers of what it called incorrect and unfounded allegations concerning some officials in the Intelligence Ministry. The statement called on the public to maintain peace and calm while awaiting the final outcome of the investigation. Correspondents say that the power struggle between Iranian conservatives and moderates has intensified since the killings, in which the conservative run Intelligence ministry has been implicated.
