New liberal newspaper in Iran

A prominent Iranian liberal and supporter of President Khatami has begun publishing a new newspaper.

The former interior minister, Abdollah Nouri, said the newspaper, called "Khordad" after the month of President Khatami's election, would promote civil society and defend the rights of the Iranian people.

Mr Nouri lost his post in the government in June after being criticised by conservatives.
