Al-Jazeera correspondent released in Texas

The Qatar-based satellite television station, al-Jazeera, says its Washington correspondent, who was arrested in the United States, has now been released.

Al-Jazeera said Mohammad al-Alami was detained as he was on his way to cover the Russian-American summit in Texas.

According to the station, Mr Al-Alami said police told him that the credit card of the al-Jazeera office contained information connected with what is going on in Afghanistan.

Al-Jazeera has been accused in the United States of being a mouthpiece for Osama bin Laden and his associates, a charge which the channel has denied.

Earlier this week, American planes bombed the building occupied by al-Jazeera, and other foreign media in the capital Kabul.
