Saudis reject Yemeni accusations of border encroachment

Saudi Arabia has rejected charges by Yemen that it has occupied areas of Yemeni territory.

The denial, carried by the Saudi news agency, said there were established committees for dealing with differences and these were a better way of solving disputes than the issuing of communiques which caused suspicion.Yemen yesterday accused the Saudis of encroaching on its territory and was also angered by Saudi Arabia's action in lodging reservations with the Arab League over the demarcation of Yemen's border with Oman.

A BBC analyst says the row reflects Yemeni suspicion of Saudi involvement in recent unrest in Yemen sparked off by steep price rises for basic goods.
