Vatican minister meets Christians in Iran
The Vatican foreign minister, Monsignor Jean-Louis Tauran, has been meeting members of Iran's Christian community in Isfahan on the latest stage of his visit to the Islamic Republic. He's the highest-ranking Vatican official to visit Iran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. On a tour around Isfahan's historic mosques and bridges, Monsignor Tauran was welcomed by senior provincial officials and Armenian Christian bishops. He's due to meet Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and President Khatami, before the end of his five-day tour. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
