More deaths in Algeria violence

Reports from Algeria say twelve civilians have been killed by armed men in an ambush late yesterday in the Khemis Miliana region, in the west of the country.

Another two people were injured.

Local residents said about ten men in military uniforms set up a false roadblock, and then stopped vehicles and opened fire on those inside.

Some reports said the attackers also drenched vehicles with petrol and set them alight.

The attack was blamed on Islamic militants. It's estimated that more than one-hundred thousand people have been killed in Algeria since the militants took up arms in 1992.
