Khomeini immortalised online

Ayatollah Khomeini - now at the House of Sun website

BBC Monitoring reports on the media in Iran:

Iranian officials have launched a new website dedicated to the memory of the founder of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini.

The House of the Sun website features a collection of Khomeini's sayings on subjects as diverse as carnal desires, the nature of the US government and the role of women.

There are English, Persian and Arabic versions.

Also featured on the site, which can be found via the official Iranian news agency site, are collections of photographs, including photos of his family and his time in exile, video clips, a biography and the text of his final message to the Iranian people published after his death, described as the political and divine will of the great leader of the Islamic Revolution and founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iranian news agency reported in early June that a collection of Khomeini's works were going be put on the Internet.

Below are some of the sayings that appear on the website, described as "but a draught off the affluent stream of written and spoken words of wisdom by the sage of all times, His Holiness Imam Khomeini" :

On religion

  • With such a progressive school as Islam, there is no reason why the Iranian nation should imitate Western or communist models.

On international affairs

  • America is the number-one-enemy of the oppressed and deprived peoples of the world.
  • We would surely destroy all arrogant powers if we could have the power to do it.

On morality

  • Beware the carnal desires for they are the heritage of Satan
  • Self-love is the root of all corruption of man, it has been from the first appearance of man down to the present and will be such a source to the Last Day.

On the role of women

  • In our age women have proved that in a fight they march by the side of men or ahead of them.
  • No occupation is more honourable than motherhood. A mother's service to the community is greater than of a teacher, it is greater than all other services.
