The Royal Welsh Show at Llanelwedd, Powys, is one of the big events of the Welsh summer, and the judging of the horses starts early.
First-day attendance at the Royal Welsh was 53,406, which compares to 51,360 for the same day in 2008.
The five-year average for attendance at the Royal Welsh on a Monday is 49,936, while the record attendance for a Monday is more than 55,000.
As well as the horses, sheep, pigs and cattle, there are slightly more exotic attractions, such as these angora goats.
It can be tiring for the animals, and these Gloucester old spot piglets take a welcome nap.
