US TV personality Ed McMahon, who has died aged 86, was talk show host Johnny Carson's sidekick on The Tonight Show for 30 years. He was previously Carson's announcer on game show Who Do You Trust?
McMahon was famed for his catchphrase 'Heeeeeere's Johnny!" and buoyed up Carson's talk show, which featured a host of guests including Bill Cosby.
Sidekick McMahon was said to be outgoing and confident compared to Carson, with his supporting role bolstering the quieter frontman.
After leaving The Tonight Show together with Carson, McMahon appeared on the late night programme as a guest with Carson's successor Jay Leno.
McMahon remained a presence on the small screen, here appearing on a telethon with entertainer Jerry Lewis.
The entertainer later published his memoirs which were named after the catchphrase which made him a household name across the US.
Despite health and financial problems in the twilight of his life, McMahon appeared in the public eye, including at the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards.
