In pictures: BP Portrait Award shortlist

Peter Monkman

Three artists have been shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award, which brings with it a prize of 25,000. School art director Peter Monkman's subject is his daughter Anna.

Annalisa Avancini

Italian artist and teacher Anna Avancini chose her friend Manuel as her subject. The shortlisted artists were chosen from a field of nearly 2,000 entrants. The winner will be announced on 16 June.

Michael Gaskell

Previous Portrait Prize runner-up Michael Gaskell painted his son Tom, who was 17 at the time. An exhibition featuring 56 of the best entrants runs from 18 June to 14 September at London's National Portrait Gallery.
