A gunman went on a shooting spree in the US state of Alabama on Tuesday, killing at least nine people before shooting himself.
It is thought that the killer shot a number of members of his own family, as well as at least two strangers, in the small southern town of Samson.
Shocked residents of the small community have been comforting each other.
The gunman then drove to the nearby town of Geneva and shot at police before entering a metal products plant where he shot himself.
The mayor of Samson said that he had "never, never dreamed of this happening" in his town. The motive behind the killings is not yet clear.
