The family and friends of Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai have attended a service for his wife, Susan, who was killed in a car crash on Friday.

Mr Tsvangirai's six children were at the service in Harare, where their father said he thanked God for the 31 years he had been able to spend with his wife.

Mr Tsvangirai, who has said he believes the crash was a genuine accident, said he was certain his wife would now want life to go on.

President Robert Mugabe also spoke during the service, telling mourners it would take time to recover from the shock of Mrs Tsvangirai's death but that it had been "the hand of God".

Mrs Tsvangirai was killed instantly when the car in which she and her husband were travelling was hit by a lorry.

Mrs Tsvangirai's body will be buried in the family's home town of Buhera on Wednesday, said a spokesman for Mr Tsvangirai.
