Altermodern, the fourth Tate Triennial, featuring some of the best new contemporary art in the UK, has opened at Tate Britain, in London.
The exhibition includes works in all media - from photography, film, video and installations - including Gateway, by German painter and installation artist Franz Ackermann.
Tate Britain describes the exhibition as a new form of art for the 21st century, which celebrates a "fresh energy and spirit" in contemporary culture.
The artists featured include Charles Avery, Simon Starling, Pascale Marthine Tayou and Bob and Roberta Smith (pictured).
Altermodern: Tate Triennial 2009 is open to the public until 26 April.
