Thousands of people have held rallies across Russia, protesting at the government's handling of the economy.
With the economy in deep trouble and unemployment rising rapidly, many fear what the future could hold. This protester's placard reads simply "No to unemployment".
The biggest protests took place in the eastern city of Vladivostok, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
Government supporters have also been holding rallies backing President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin.
Opposition and government supporters clashed on the streets in the capital.
Police broke up some unsanctioned demonstrations, and there are reports that leaders of the radical National Bolshevik Party were arrested.
