In Pictures: Gaza protest

Thousands of people gathered in Edinburgh city centre to protest over the Israeli action in Gaza. Pictures by the Press Association.

Police said about 4,000 people attended the rally but campaigners put the figure at 10,000.

Event organiser Nick Napier said: It's a war too many for most people."

The event's organiser said the action was taken as a result of the "rage and anger" over the death toll in Gaza.

People threw shoes towards the American consulate building which was guarded by police.

About 300 shoes were thrown in total. Protesters also splattered red paint.

Police said there were no arrests but some officers sustained minor injuries.
