The Brit Insurance Design Awards 2009 shortlists have been announced, spanning seven categories: Architecture, Fashion, Furniture, Graphics, Interactive, Product and Transport.

Finalists for the awards, now in their second year, were nominated by industry experts in each field.

Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Westminster Academy. (Architecture)

The judging panel will decide the category winners early next year. They will then vie for the 2009 Design of the Year.

Some designs are already well known to the public, including the logo from Channel 4's Big Brother, designed by Daniel Eatock.

The public are also being encouraged to share their views on this year's shortlisted designs at the Design Museum website.

Deyan Sudjic, director of the Design Museum, said: "In the midst of economic chaos, creative thinking is more important than ever."

The Designs of the Year exhibition runs from 12 February to 14 June at the Design Museum. The awards ceremony will take place on 18 March.
