Birkenhead-born artist Mark Leckey has won this year's Turner Prize. His work, a combination of film, sound, sculpture and performance, is based on contemporary culture.
Leckey, a professor of film studies in Frankfurt, loves to play with film and TV images and has a particular penchant for cartoon characters.
The 44-year-old has won the Turner Prize for his exhibition, Industrial Light & Magic, which includes the film Cinema in the Round.
The artist, who admits to having "a slight obsession" with Felix the Cat, works with motifs of desire and transformation.
