Researchers are worried for the fate of the garden sparrow. Numbers have declined in suburban London over the past 20 years, largely due to urban development.

Police arrest murder suspect John Claydon (l), 28, who escaped from the psychiatric unit at Springfield Hospital in Wandsworth, south London, on Tuesday night with accused burglar John Slavin, 44, who is still at large.
