Mitchell Charles, 64, thought to be the UK's longest-serving binman will be retiring after 41 years in the job. He has picked up approximately 2.3 million bins in Harrow.

The Queen awarded a knighthood to Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson.

Natalia Nadel with baby Nikol and Pc Dan Wells

Pc Dan Wells stopped a driver in south-west London to warn him about overtaking but ended up helping the man's wife, Natalia Nadel, deliver baby Nikol on the road.

Kanyanta Mulenga

Convicted drug dealer Kanyanta Mulega was jailed for a minimum of 28 years for murdering former boxing champion James Oyebola. Mr Oyebola was shot when he asked a group to stop smoking.

Statue of a black woman

London's first public statue of an African-Caribbean woman, titled Bronze Woman, was installed in Stockwell Memorial Garden. The statue is based on a poem of the same name by poet Cecile Nobrega.

Errol Davis

Errol Davis, 24, died when he was shot in the head at close range at the SEOne nightclub in Bermondsey during a night out with friends.
