Some 250 members of Team GB were invited to Lancaster House in London for a thank-you reception hosted by Gordon Brown. Among them was swimmer Rebecca Adlington, who won two golds.
From in the pool to on the water, the triumphant cox of the men's eight, Acer Nethercott, proudly showed off his silver medal.
Fencer Alex O'Connell and gymnasts Daniel Keatings and Lewis Smith are among Britain's biggest hopes for London 2012.
Mr Brown mingled with the athletes. He met newly retired badminton player Gail Emms (left) and gold-medal-winning sailor Pippa Wilson. She was part of the Yngling team with Sarah Ayton and Sarah Webb.
Mr Brown and wife Sarah took a look at Adlington's gold medals. But the swimmer left her gold Jimmy Choo shoes - a prize for her success - behind for the evening.
The evening appeared to provide the prime minister with some much-needed light relief. He said the athletes had "done brilliantly by our country" and vowed to invest generously in them ahead of 2012.
